Personality

Turkish Angoras are bright, busy cats that like to be in charge of the household. They learn tricks quickly, figure out how to open cupboards and often perch on the highest point in the room. Affectionate and chatty with their people, they thrive in a home that keeps them entertained.

Care and grooming

The fine, silky single coat has no woolly undercoat, so it rarely mats and a weekly comb is usually plenty. Offer lots of climbing space and puzzle toys to keep that quick mind busy.

Health

This is a generally healthy, long-lived breed. White cats with one or two blue eyes are more likely to be born deaf, so ask about a hearing test if your kitten has blue eyes. Regular vet checks and dental care cover most other needs.

History

Long-haired white cats from the Ankara region were prized for centuries and were among the first long-haired cats to reach Europe. The breed nearly vanished in the early twentieth century, until a breeding program at Ankara Zoo helped preserve it.
